Ever since the Taurus took a nose dive a few years ago, Ford has been looking for a suitable replacement to challenge the Accord and Camry in the mid-sized car segment. The Fusion first came out in Ford’s line up in 2006 but is newley changed with the a Hybrid power plant system that people are really starting to notice.  Ford officially released the Fusion Hybrid recently at the Los Angeles Auto Show late in 2008.The excellent in-town gas mileage is what makes the Ford Fusion Hybrid so unique.Driving the Fusion Hybrid around town will net you over 40 miles per gallon which far outshines the Camry and even the fuel efficient civic hybrid. Thanks to an electric motor, the Ford can go up to 47 miles per hour.It has been written about and this system has been used by many to get better MPG than the EPA says are possible.

By using new technology, the Fusion can help drivers know which driving style recieves the best fuel economy.Ford has made a smart feature built into the gauge cluster called the Smart Gauge. There are two displays on each side of the gauge cluster that show various hybrid info. The 1st display tells the power left in the battery packs and the remaining amount of fuel.  The second data screen adds an electric vehicle mode indicator and RPM Tach.  The third screen displays engine and battery output power.Additional power consumption and power to the wheels are shown in the last data screen.Information Displays reveal fuel consumption, Miles Per Gallon account, journey record, and antifreeze levels. To inform the driver which driving style is the best for fuel economy, a real time MPG information gauge is available.

The nav screen shows the Hybrid Energy Flow data.  This display will track the 5 modes of the Fusion’s Hybrid Powertrain which are the; electric drive, hybrid drive, electric boost, idle charging, and regenerative breaking.

Ford not only equipped the Fusion with an environmentally friendly drivetrain; they also used post-industrial yarns which are recycled into the seats of the Fusion Hybrid.Hybrid vehicles have been vastly popular over the last few years with Toyota and Honda leading the way; finally Ford has joined the race.
