The Power of Social Media Sites

Social media in the form of social networks and social bookmarking are all the rage today. But it’s hard to know which social network is right for you if you haven’t tried all of them. This is why many Internet users find social network reviews valuable. When reading the reviews, however, you might be surprised at how much variation there is in people’s viewpoints. Some people would defend their social media choices to the bitter end. That may be due, however, to being unaware of all the available options, so all their time was taken up with one site before they knew what was happening. Some of those who are insistent about their choice don’t even know the difference between online business networking, social bookmarking sites or sites that offer online social networking just for fun. Even some avid social media users don’t know that there are also social media platforms, like Yuwie, that use small amounts of money per click to pay for people to use and promote their sites.

Many people aren’t aware of the distinction between social networks because there is a tremendous amount of overlap of features on the various sites. Sites such as MySpace can be used just for fun or for serious business networking, or both! Thousands of user-created free Ning networking communities have sprung up all over the Internet, such as Paper Craft Planet. These sites are really where the rubber hits the road when it comes to social networking because they’re created by users and focus on distinct interests. Niches can be as specific as book aficionados, who now have many online communities geared just to them. Online social networking sites , like GoodReads have book reviews and other features created just for people who love to read. Another powerful form of social networking is social bookmarking, which has become a standard for people who work and play on the Web. Social bookmarking sites like Mister Wong allow people to save their favorite bookmarks so they can access them online any time. This platform type is also great for people who conduct searches, because tags that allow for easy searching can be assigned to each bookmark. The ability to use keyword tagging also is of value to Web marketers, because they can get backlinks for their Web properties. A single social bookmark link doesn’t carry a lot of weight yet when a site has many of them, it can change the amount of search engine traffic it receives. Also, like with Mixx, if a blog post is entered on one of these sites, high Google rankings can result if it is submitted correctly and has the right keywords associated with it.

Confusing the issue even more are sites like Digg, which are set up for both social networking and social bookmarking. These sites are used for bookmarking but they also have legions of people who frequent them for marketing or socializing. You can make a lot of friends on these sites and blog posts featured on these social networking sites have the potential to rank well in Google and other search engines. These powerful benefits are just some of the reasons that people who make their livings online love social media sites.
